The Ridgewood, 310 Ridgemede Road
The Ridgewood Apartments (1966) Converted to Condos (1991)
(1966) The Ridgewood, located on Ridgemede and opposite the apartment house of the same name, developed from a long and hard-fought, though entirely civilized battle between TCNA and the owner, Thomas Mullan of the Mullan Construction Company. In 1958, Mr. Mullan proposed a forty-apartment building with thirty parking spaces and two doctors’ offices at the Linkwood end of the building. Construction required a change in zoning if the Association did not agree to the proposal. After nine years of proposals and counter-proposals, of zoning threats and complaints about the eyesore created by the ten acres of vacant property, the association eventually agreed to thirty instead of forty apartments with adjacent parking behind the building and no commercial offices.
The building is similar to the Ridgemede. It has a Tudor design and with leaded glass windows that match the homes in the area. Porches and balconies were included on three sides of the building. Trees and bushes planted around the Ridgewood make the building blend in with the Linkwood Park and the homes on Ridgemede Road. The Ridgewood has a parking area for 29 cars on the Tuscany Alley.
1991, the Ridgewood was converted to condos.
