MEDIA ADVISORY

Baltimore City Health Department Confirms Rabid Foxes Found in Roland Park

BALTIMORE, MD (June 9, 2026) — On Tuesday, June 9, 2026, the Baltimore City Health Department Animal Control unit was notified that 2 foxes in Roland Park have tested positive for rabies. One fox had direct contact with humans while the 2nd fox was not reported to have any human exposure.

One fox was picked up near the intersection of Overhill Road and Meadow Lane, while the other was picked up at near the 4400 block of Linkwood Road. Both of these locations border Stoney Run Park. After initial interviews of the human exposures were conducted, there was another potential human exposed to the same the rabid fox that was found on 4400 Linkwood Rd. Please reach out to the Baltimore City Health Department if you handled a fox in Roland Park. Animal Control believes there may be up to 5 additional foxes in the area that were all a part of the same fox den.

“We take any rabies exposure seriously,” said Dr. Michelle Taylor, Health Commissioner for the Baltimore City Health Department. “If you have any information about the foxes in the area or believe you may have had contact with a fox, please contact the Baltimore City Health Department.”

Out of an abundance of caution, the Health Department has recommended that residents living near the Stoney Run Park should check their pets for any potential animal bites and if they have suspicious wounds, they should immediately be checked by a veterinarian. Please ensure pets are up to date on their rabies vaccinations. Rabies can be fatal if left untreated.

This evening, Health Department officers canvassed the area where the foxes were captured.

In the meantime, Dr. Taylor urges anyone who may be concerned that they had contact with a fox or their animal had contact with a fox – they should contact the Baltimore City Health Department immediately at 410-396-4436 during normal business hours, or call the Baltimore City Operator at 410-396-3100 after business hours or on weekends.
