3908 N Charles Street, The Warrington
The Warrington
Two years before the 1929 stock market crash, the large lot at 3908 sold. Turmoil about zoning changes that would permit a building higher than two or three stories worried many homeowners. Residents strenuously objected to turning Charles Street into a veritable “Chinese wall” of apartment houses. The Warrington was built in 1928.
As the neighborhood of Guilford was being built, the architects, Wyatt & Nolting understood that any building they designed for the area would need to be equal to or exceed what was being in the design of the single homes. And at the Warrington, they fulfilled their mission.
This grand, enormous apartment building, Georgian Revival style, replaced the Hyde mansion and rivaled it in magnificence. The Warrington is Baltimore’s most beautiful and classic apartment building.
