Stony Run Area Detached Houses

Linkwood Rd

The house between Ridgemede and Stoneyford Road is built on a rocky cliff that was once the site of the Paradise Mill on the Stony Run and then an old sawmill.  The house, built in 1936 on land purchased from Clyde Friz has remained in the same family.  The yard originally contained drying ponds for sewage before Linkwood Road opened. There were three streams that once came into the Stony Run.  The steam was redirected when Linkwood Road was opened.  The sewage disappeared long ago, but the ponds were filled in later.

The architect for this unusual hillside lot was Frazier Baldwin who put the front door on the side of the house facing the gardens that surround the Ridgemede Apartments (now condominiums).   A terraced addition and a second family home have been added.

Stony Run Lane, Nursing Home, Request to Expand Nursing Home by 300%, Duplex House, Single Family Home

According the TCNA minutes, the nursing home had been illegally in existence for many years.  Legal intervention was required to block the expansion of the nursing home from twenty-nine beds to eighty-five.   In the first round of intervention, the mayor overrode the association’s request, thereby permitting expansion.  The minutes do not record the eventual outcome, but the plan failed, and the building became a handsome, two-family brick house.
