Residences on Homewood Campus:

The Academy new home for sophomore students in 2026

Miller Roberts from JHU explained at the May TCNA board meeting what will be happening to The Academy in the future.

Johns Hopkins University purchased The Academy in 2024 for the purpose of providing space for JHU sophomore students while the on-campus residences are completely rebuilt.

Residence Halls:

There are 4 residence halls. The oldest was built in 1923 and all need to be replaced. All freshman and sophomore students attending JHU are required to live in campus housing and are not allowed to have cars on campus.

Construction on the first residence hall will start in summer/fall of 2026. Sophomores who would normally live in that building will live in The Academy beginning August 2026 and will remain there for one year. The following year another group of sophomores will live there.

The (JHU) Academy:

2024-2025 and 2025-2026: NO CHANGES, Currently houses 340 upper class students in 4-bedroom apartment type suites. This will continue during 2025-2026. G&M, the former owners, will continue to manage the building as they do now.

2026-2027 TENTATIVE PLANS, 220 sophomores who would normally live on the Homewood Campus residence hall will live in The Academy. Some of the upperclass students would be allowed to remain at The Academy during this transition year.
